Arabic on the label is not optional packaging flair
GSO 9 and UAE practice expect Arabic. English can ride along. The Arabic text wins if the two disagree.
Overseas brands underestimate labeling more than freight. A US Supplement Facts panel does not automatically satisfy UAE reviewers.
GSO 9 in plain terms
Gulf Technical Regulation GSO 9:2022 covers labeling of prepackaged foodstuffs. The GSO publication notes that the Arabic text is official if English and Arabic conflict. Mandatory data themes include the name of the food, ingredients, net quantity, manufacturer or packer identity, origin, dates, storage and use instructions, and related declarations. Read the current GSO text before artwork lock.
USDA's UAE FAIRS summary (secondary source) also describes Arabic labeling and label assessment through systems such as ZAD / FIRS before entry. Use it as a checklist prompt, then confirm on UAE primary portals.
Dubai Municipality expectations
DM materials for consumer products require clear, indelible labels that are not easily removable, and point you to product-type label rules. Health-supplement filings in Montaji need artwork that matches what you ship. Medical claims are a recurring red flag in older DM healthy-supplement guidance.
Practical workflow
- Freeze the formula and pack size.
- Draft bilingual artwork with Arabic first for mandatory fields.
- Run the correct registration path (EDE and/or Montaji).
- Only then print the export lot for the UAE.
WellnessLine Trading L.L.C reviews artwork against the pathway you are filing. Send current labels with your brand enquiry.
