Selling supplements in the UAE is a compliance project first
Demand is real. So are detentions for unlabeled or unregistered stock. Start with the product file, not the influencer brief.
If your brand already sells in the US, EU, or UK, the UAE looks familiar until the first consignment. Packaging that passed Amazon.com can fail Dubai label assessment. A "dietary supplement" at home may be treated as a healthcare product that needs Emirates Drug Establishment marketing approval before it can be imported and sold.
The short list
- Know which authority owns your SKU. EDE marketing approval for healthcare products (including many food supplements under Decree-Law 38 of 2024). Dubai Municipality Montaji for consumer-product health supplements in Dubai and e-commerce scope. Classification mistakes waste months.
- Register before you scale ads. Federal law requires marketing approval from EDE before medical products in scope are imported, distributed, possessed, sold, or displayed for circulation in the State, with listed exceptions.
- Fix the label. GSO 9 rules for prepackaged foods make Arabic the official text when languages conflict. Stickers are common; empty promises are not.
- Name an importer of record. Someone local owns the customs and product file. That can be your distributor.
- Then open channels. Pharmacies, specialty retail, Amazon.ae, Noon.
